Berghaus Men’s RG1 Jacket Review
After an unfortunate incident involving a chain link fence last fall, I had to get a new outdoor jacket. I wanted something that was a little sporty, but also really comfortable and durable since I like to play basketball when the weather permits.
It didn’t take me long to find the Berghaus RG1 Jacket. From what I read, it sounded like exactly what I needed. Nearly a year later, I’m still really happy with my purchase.
Berghaus RG1 Features
This jacket was marketed as highly waterproof. To tell you the truth, I didn’t really know what that meant. I have a rain jacket that I can wear in rough weather, so I wasn’t really worried about it.
It turns out that highly waterproof basically means that it will keep you dry in a light rain but not a torrential downpour. If it were waterproof, I assume that no water would get through. This just offers good resistance that gives you a few minutes to find a dry spot to wait for the rain to pass. Realistically, it’s good enough. I don’t see myself standing in the rain anytime soon.
The Berghaus Men’s RG1 Jacket has two layers. The outer layer is made of a nylon weave that seems really durable. I wouldn’t recommend running it along the top of a jagged fence or anything, but it seems like it will hold up pretty well for several years.
The side is made of a material that lets your skin breathe. That’s a good quality to have in a jacket, especially for someone who plans to wear it while you’re outside having fun. It can get a little damp inside the jacket at times, but I don’t think there’s a way to stop that. I mean, you get really wet during the summer wearing shorts and a T-shirt, too. I suppose you can only do so much about sweat.
Comfort in Motion
I was a little hesitant to get this jacket because of its high collar. I know it’s supposed to help keep comfortable in the rain or wind, but I was worried that it would rub against my neck. As I learned more about the product, no one else mentioned that it bothered them, so I figured it wouldn’t be an issue.
I was right. It isn’t an issue at all. You won’t even notice the collar. If it does bother you, you can fold it down when the jacket is unzipped.
The Zippers and Pockets
I want to say that this is a great zipper. I’ve had jackets before with really bad zippers. Nothing ruins outerwear like a zipper that won’t zip right the first time. The Berghaus Men’s RG1 Jacket has one of the best zippers I’ve ever owner. I don’t expect this thing to snag anytime soon. The teeth look well made and sturdy.
The jacket has two large pockets located near the front. The pockets are obviously designed for your hands. They’re pretty much the perfect size for keeping your hands warm while you’re waiting for the bus. Obviously you could put anything else that you want in there, although it’s not a great idea to keep heavy objects in the pockets while you’re running. The jacket is loose enough that the items will keep bumping into over and over.
Where it Could use Improvement
The jacket itself is awesome. I don’t think I would want to change anything about it. (I guess it would be nice if it were completely waterproof, but I’m sure that would make it a lot more expensive, too.) I have only one complaint, and I’m hardly the first person to make it. There’s something weird about Berghaus’s sizing. I ordered the size that I usually wear, but I ended up having to send it back for one that fit better. I got a proper fit on the second one. It’s a little annoying that I had to send it back, but it’s not that big of a deal really. Just be aware that the sizes might not be what you’re used to.
I’m not exactly a fashion expert or anything. I just want clothes that do what they’re supposed to do. The Berghaus Men’s RG1 Jacket is a great option for guys who like to keep it sporty and casual. It has a no-nonsense design that isn’t going to turn any heads. But it feels good and it is durable. Those are the things that I want most in a jacket, so I’m very satisfied.
If you need a way to stay warm on a chilly day, this is a great option. I wear mine a lot while playing sports outdoors, but I have also worn it while hanging out with people in the neighborhood.
