Vango Omega 350 Tent Review

I’ve always liked camping on my own, but there are times when it’s more fun (not to mention safer) to explore trails with a group. A lot of the people I go camping with don’t like to sleep under the stars. They prefer tents, which I can understand even though I’m not so particular. When I head into the woods with more than two friends, I like to bring along my Vango Omega 350 tent. I’ve had it for over a year now and it has never let us down.

Vango Omega 350 Tent Features

Spacious Rooms

The Vango Omega 350 tent has a divider that essentially creates two interior rooms. It’s a tunnel tent, so it doesn’t have much height to it. Once you get inside, though, it feel surprisingly roomy. I’ve had three people in there at once. We felt perfectly comfortable. Personally, I slept like a log.

One of the rooms is designed for campers to use it as a bedroom while the other room acts as a kind of porch. If you need to fit another person in there, though, you can use that porch area as a bedroom.

You can also use the porch area to enjoy the outdoors without getting bit by bugs. The flysheet door keeps them out while letting the fresh air in. It’s a great place to enjoy your morning coffee.

Good Privacy

I was a little cautious about buying a two-room tent at first. I like a little privacy at night. Who doesn’t? I was surprised to find that the Vango Omega 350 tent actually offers quite a bit of privacy. I mean, it’s still a tent. It’s not like it includes noise-cancelling panels or anything. But the two rooms offer the illusion of privacy. I wouldn’t suggest having a romantic time with your partner while someone is sleeping in the other room, but to each his own.

Strong Materials

According to the materials I got with the tent, it’s made of Protex 5000HH HC Polyester 68D material. Ok, so that doesn’t really mean anything to me. What I know is that this is a durable material that has shown excellent resilience. We even slept in it during a spring hail storm. It didn’t show any tears or rips. (That was certainly one night when I was glad my friends insisted on bringing a tent. Getting hit in the face with an ice ball in the middle of the night is not my idea of fun.)

The zippers also seem pretty sturdy. I’ve only had the Vango Omega 350 tent for about a year, so I wouldn’t expect the zipper to show any wear yet. Still, there are some products out there with faulty zippers that don’t even work well on the first day you use them. The zippers in this slide up and down without any resistance. It also manages to create a good seal without getting any of the fabric stuck between its teeth.

I should also mention that the tent basically has an inner and outer shell. The inner part breathes well, so you don’t get too hot while sleeping. The outer shell prevents water from coming in.

Lightweight for Hiking

The tent weighs about 12 pounds (5.5 kgs). That makes it a good option for overnight hiking trips. It’s probably not as light as your single person sleeper, but it’s close. I’d rather shoulder the load by carrying one large tent than forcing everyone else to carry individual tents. Besides, you can switch up who carries it. You might carry it the first day and your hiking companion carries it the next. It’s a good compromise that gives each person a chance to romp around without the extra weight. You couldn’t get away with that carrying several tents.

Easy to Put Together

This tent is really easy to put together. It comes with color coded poles and instructions that are easy to follow. If you have put together a few tents in your day, you probably won’t even need the instructions.

Where it Can be Improvement

This is a pretty great tent. The only thing I would change are the support straps on the inside. They’re not terrible, but they’re not terrific either. That’s a pretty minor complaint. It’s not like they’re falling apart or anything. I’ve just seen better designs in other tents.
